October Favorites

Fashion:
I just got these new leggings that are perfect for Halloween. They're so cute. It's skeletons and stars.

Music:

Night Riots came out with their first full length album and I have been listening to it nonstop. It's so good and a lot like their other songs on the eps. My favorite songs on it are "Nothing Personal," "Fangs," "Don't Kill the Messenger," and this one has been stuck in my head ever since it came out "Breaking Free."

I love them so much and they have been doing a bunch of teasers and finally they have released two new songs! They are: "White Offerings" and "Snow Cats" Yeah weird name, but I already love it. Both are on Spotify right now.

Books:

Every October I get an urge/craving to read spooky books. Katytastic and her other fellow booktubers read The Call  and said it was scary, so I've been waiting for it to come to the library. Hopefully it gets to me before the end of October. I owned Blood and Chocolate, so I decided to read that while I waited to get other books from the library. In hindsight maybe I should have read the other scary book that I own, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls.
I found Bittersweet and What Waits in the Woods on a "scary YA" book list on goodreads, but that didn't work out well. Neither book was scary unless you count the creepy incest in Bittersweet. The scariest thing about What Waits in the Woods was the title of the book. So yeah it was kind of a bust this year, but it's on my favorite things because of the idea and wanting scary books during the month of October. I'm sure The Call will be a great ending to a scary month if I can get it in time.

Pinterest Series: Lower Stress II

15 things to do when you’re stressed. http://adashofdayna.blogspot.com/2016/03/15-things-to-do-when-youre-stressed.html:

I painted my nails, colored, wrote in my journal, ate a favorite dessert, listened to my favorite songs,...  I think all of these things help with lowering stress because they help take my mind off things. Journaling is nice if I have something to look forward to, such as writing about the concert I'm going to go to next month and how it'll be my first time flying in a plane. After coloring I had a feeling of happiness/awe of how pretty it turned out. Eating dessert gets me lost in it's delicious flavor (blueberry muffin btw, I love Bahama Bucks!)
I also found a few other things that help relax me. Reading a book that I like and can't wait to dive back into after doing work. Books can take you to a different world and immerse yourself, so that you don't think about what's going on around you. I also find scrolling through instagram to be relaxing. It's just something fun to do and will take your mind off of things.

Pinterest Series: Snickers Cookie Bars

SNICKERS COOKIE BARS! Snickers Shortbread Cookies made with caramel, chocolate, and peanuts! BEST CHRISTMAS COOKIE RECIPE EVER!!:
Website with recipe

We didn't have a 9x9 pan, so I had to double the batch. I don't know how I feel about these. They taste good, but they're super rich and lately I haven't been liking a lot of chocolate, so that was a little too thick for my tastes. My mom on the other hand is all about the chocolate, so maybe it's just the mood I'm in. We froze them to help them harden faster because it was ten o'clock at night. It was really hard to cut frozen, but I think they taste better cold than room temp. At room temp. they kind of become mushy, sooooo.. I probably won't make them again.
My caramel looks like butterfinger, but it tastes like caramel. It's because I used salted caramel baking chips because that was the only caramel that could be found at the store.

Verdict: Will not make again.

Pinterest Series: Smothered Chicken Burritos

Smothered Baked Chicken Burritos AKA "skinny chimichangas" are restaurant delicious without all the calories! made super easy by stuffing with the BEST slow cooker Mexican chicken and then baked to golden perfection and smothered in most incredible cheesy green chili sour cream sauce.:

My Turn:
These were actually REALLY good! I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food, but I'm trying to be more open to things. These didn't have the super Mexican taste or anything. I can't describe the taste it was just delicious and savory. I have people wanting me to make them again. So this recipe was a success, it will be made again. The nice thing is that the recipe makes a lot, so you can freeze them and have some later and they're still really good.

This was pretty easy. Just dump all the ingredients in and don't worry about it for a few hours. I made it around 11 in the morning and it was done by about 4.

Then I filled the tortillas and baked them. Making the sauce was the hard part. The first time I tried it burned and the second time I guess it didn't get hot enough so the cheese had a hard time melting. So I kept playing with the temperatures and it finally turned out. Also I didn't have enough green chiles, so there were only chiles in the chicken, but not in the sauce.
